Bayeaux – "The Poppy Shop"

(Click on the image for a larger view)

Anything and everything that is sold in The Poppy Shop in Bayeaux (pictured on the left of my drawing) has a poppy motif on it.

Poppies grow wild in Normandy and bloom most prolifically in April-May of a good year. In many ways they have come to symbolise this part of France.

This is a lovely and unique shop on the main street leading away from the Bayeux Tapestry Museum. The products, which are all designed by the shop’s owner (who for some reason doesn’t have her name on her card!), are eye-catching and very lovely.

The shop itself is situated in front of an ancient water wheel.

Notice the “garderobe” on the side of the building.

This was a medieval toilet or was usually installed as a cupboard hanging over the side of a castle and emptied into a moat below!
