Arundel Castle

On a crisp early morning you will often see a layer of mist surrounding the castle, making look even more iconic.
There are nearly 1,000 years of history at this great castle, situated in magnificent grounds overlooking the River Arun. It is one of the largest inhabited and complete castles in England. The Castle was founded at the end of the 11th century by Roger de Montgomery, Earl of Arundel and is the family home of the 18th Duke of Norfolk. Roger became the first to hold the earldom of Arundel by the graces of William the Conqueror.
The castle was damaged in the English Civil War and then restored in the 18th and 19th centuries by Charles Howard the 11th Duke of Norfolk.
In front of it is The River Arun. At 37 miles (60 km) long, it is the longest river entirely in Sussex .
It is one of the faster flowing rivers in England, and is tidal as far inland as Pallingham Quay, 25 miles upstream from the sea at Littlehampton.
